Records, limits and a warm sun during the 12th T-Meeting

News item from: 30 May 2023

The T-Meeting on Whit Monday, it is now written down in the agenda of many athletes. This year with an impressive field of participants. But a good field of participants or not, only the performance counts. Meeting Records and Limits are part of making THE sprint & jumping competition of the Netherlands a success. And it succeeded.

Under the supervision of a warm sun and relaxed atmosphere, the day started with the 400 meter hurdles for women. With a Meeting Record in the books of Femke Bol, the focus in this event is more on individual performance improvements. And this succeeded with the victory for the youngest athlete in the event, Abigail Noruwa. With a time of 59.35s she also qualified for the European Championships under 20! The Belgian Mimoun Abdoul Wahab won the men's race.

The 100 meter flat, the fireworks event in athletics, did not disappoint as usual. In the men's race, Joris van Gool (series: 10.38s, final: 10.45s) managed to stay ahead of the Irish duo Israel Olatunde and Joseph Olalekan Ojewumi ]. In the women's race, the win went to Naomi Sedney (11.58s), followed by Leonie van Vliet and Ireland's Mollie Oreilly. In the double distance, the 200 meters, the roles were reversed for the women. Here van Vliet took the win with an improvement of the meeting record with a time of 23.66s.

The short hurdles were on the program twice this year, two attempts for the athletes to achieve a great performance. The first run was optimally exploited by Jamie Sesay, with a time of 13.72s he qualified for the European Under-20 Championship in Jerusalem (ISR) this summer. One hundredth faster was Joas van Hellemondt (13.71s), but van Hellemondt already has the starting ticket for the EKU20 in his pocket. The second run later on the day was more than good for the Belgian Elie Bacari. During his second run he not only improved the meeting record of Job Geerds (second in the series), Bacari also qualified for the European Championship under 23 in Espoo (FIN) with a time of 13.80s.

Despite the sometimes challenging wind, the organization is happy that many personal records have been broken again this year. Congratulations to all the athletes in making this another great T-Meeting!
